Stranger Things DLC Returns to Dead by Daylight: Licensing Issues Resolved Two Years Later

Two years after legal issues compelled its removal, Dead by Daylight is staging a comeback of its popular Stranger Things DLC.

In November 2021, the game's developer, Behaviour Interactive, was compelled to withdraw the usage of Stranger Things characters Nancy, Steve, and The Demogorgon and the Hawkins Lab map from the gameplay. This occurred due to the expiry of their official agreement with Netflix. Although players could still participate as Stranger Things characters, they were unable to purchase them, and the map was rendered completely inaccessible.

Now, two years later, all the aforementioned content has been restored to the game on Stranger Things Day. Behaviour Interactive is delighted to reinstate its partnership with Netflix and reintroduce the Stranger Things chapter to the game. This includes the previously removed Underground Complex Map and the much-loved Survivor duo Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington. Behaviour's partnership lead, Mathieu Côté, hopes that players who missed out on their previous Stranger Things experience will seize the opportunity to get on board now.

Rest assured, the revitalized Dead by Daylight Stranger Things DLC is identical to its original format. The in-game store now features Nancy and Steve once again, along with the Demogorgon, and the Hawkins Lab is accessible as a playable map. The specifics of this reintroduction have not been disclosed by either Behaviour or Netflix, but the excitement of having the Stranger Things DLC back is in full swing among gamers.

In conclusion, the resurrection of the Stranger Things DLC in Dead by Daylight after a two-year hiatus marks a significant moment for fans of both the game and the popular Netflix series. Allowing players to navigate the game with beloved characters and familiar surroundings, the reintroduction aligns with the increasing ubiquity of crossovers between popular media franchises. Despite the veiled process behind resolving the licensing issues, the successful return testifies to the productive cooperation between Behaviour Interactive and Netflix. Players now have something to look forward to as they once again delve into the thrilling world of Stranger Things within Dead by Daylight.
