Civilization VII Makes Waves in the UK Market, With Strong Sales on Nintendo Switch

The recent physical sales figures from the UK indicate a promising start for Civilization VII, particularly on the Nintendo Switch. While the initial release has been somewhat inconsistent, player feedback has urged the developers at Firaxis to make swift adjustments to the new systems in order to better connect with their loyal fanbase. Nevertheless, the game has garnered a positive reception overall, as it has arisen as a notable competitor in the gaming market. Civilization VII achieved the second spot on the list of best-selling games in the UK last week, despite its niche status.

The only title that surpassed it was EA Sports FC 25, which is to be expected. Additionally, it managed to outpace Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, which has just hit an impressive milestone of two million copies sold within a fortnight of its release. Notably, the physical edition for the Nintendo Switch accounted for 27% of the total sales, marking it as the second best-selling version, as reported by GfK data shared by Nintendo Life.

Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch variant of Civilization VII has outperformed the combined sales of both PC and Xbox Series versions. Although there are some inherent restrictions, the performance of the Nintendo hybrid version remains commendable. However, it does become challenging to navigate menus and manage unit movements or resources in handheld mode due to the controls' precision. The solid hardware base of the Switch has undeniably favored its performance compared to the Xbox Series, which, we have learned, sold fewer than 300,000 consoles across Europe in the entirety of 2024.

Have you had the opportunity to experience Civilization VII? How do you assess its impressive debut in the UK, particularly regarding the Switch edition?
