Bungie Grapples with Server Glitches Amid Destiny 2: The Final Shape Release, Aiming to Boost Stability

Due to server glitches, the release of Destiny 2: The Final Shape faced hurdles in surpassing the PC player peak for Destiny 2, prompting Bungie to clarify the missteps with the MMO's fresh expansion debut.

The anticipated arrival of Destiny 2: The Final Shape has been marred by notable server glitches. As the situation begins to marginally stabilize, Bungie discloses the nature of the mishaps and the corrective actions implemented by the studio.

"Greetings, everyone. Should the connection glitches have hindered your experience with The Final Shape today, our apologies," expressed Bungie in a tweet the night the expansion was launched. "We are diligently working towards addressing these problems as swiftly as we can, and a significant amount of the connection glitches from the morning have been rectified."

A series of tweets from the studio further elucidated the measures undertaken to rectify various whimsically named error messages in the game. Errors dubbed Honeydew were "wholly fixed" within 20 minutes "by augmenting the quota of Activity Hosts available per server." A surge in Weasel and Plum errors saw resolution within an hour "via modifications in server settings." The corrections list extended further from there.

The lingering query remains, 'Is Destiny 2 down?' The situation fluctuates by the moment, yet the game's accessibility has significantly improved from the prior day. "We are vigilantly observing the game's player base and intend to bolster server capacity throughout the day to maintain game stability," Bungie mentioned in a later tweet. "As more players join, some may experience a queue, but our aim is to facilitate everyone's entry as promptly as possible."

The surge in interest in the expansion is evident. Following the previous year's Lightfall launch, Steam's concurrent player record soared to 316,750. Despite the severe server glitches, SteamDB recorded a peak of 314,634 players after the debut of The Final Shape. The numbers are expected to climb further once all issues are fully addressed.
