Blackbird Interactive Faces Another Round of Job Cuts

Reports have emerged that Blackbird Interactive, a game development studio based in Vancouver, has once again reduced its workforce. This marks the second occurrence of job cuts within a six-month period, with the precise number of positions affected remaining undisclosed at this time.

The initial indications of the layoffs surfaced through Game Developer magazine, which noted several former employees announcing their departure on LinkedIn. Following these observations, Blackbird Interactive issued an official statement acknowledged by GamesIndustry.biz.

A representative from the studio explained, "In response to external economic challenges beyond our control, we've had to make the tough decision to part ways with some of our colleagues.

"The current situation has necessitated a strategic realignment prompted by the cessation of new projects from certain partners. We explored various alternatives to avoid this scenario, but unfortunately, no other practical solutions presented themselves. Our departing team members are part of the BBI family, and we are committed to supporting them as they transition to the next phase in their careers. To this end, we're providing an array of extended benefits and severance packages to facilitate a smoother transition."

The latest job reduction follows an earlier incident where the studio saw over 40 developers lose their positions. While the specifics regarding the number of employees affected in this recent round are unclear, this comes on the heels of Blackbird's decision to postpone the release of Homeworld 3 from March 8 to May 13.
